Report: DEPA, Gazprom agree on lower gas take-up fine
ATHENS, Jan 22 (PRIME) -- Greece’s natural gas distributor DEPA agreed to pay U.S. $36 million to Russia’s Gazprom for lower gas take-up as a result of softer-than-expected demand in Greece, DEPA said in a statement on Friday, Reuters reported.
Gazprom is the biggest supplier of state-run DEPA and the two sides had been negotiating how much the Greek company would pay for not absorbing purchased gas under a so-called “take or pay” clause.
Gazprom was initially demanding a reimbursement of $82 million.
DEPA will pay $20 million as a first instalment on January 31 and the rest on March 31, it said.
